March 28-29: New bedroom

We have this weird den thing in our house that is open to the kitchen and laundry room on one side and also open to the living room on the other side. We decided that we want to close it off and have a 4th bedroom/den/game room. Here are the before shots:

Jade is helping move furniture out of the den.

This room is the only room in the house that has popcorn ceiling, so we decided that the first thing we were going to do is remove the popcorn. We covered the walls and floor to protect them. At this point we were still thinking about saving the carpet.

Getting started.

View of the covered room from the living room. Lilly said it was like a fish tank and it kind of was because we sprayed the ceiling with water to remove the popcorn, so the floor was collecting trash and water.

Taping.

Chunks removed from the ceiling.

More chunks.

Another view.

Once we were done scraping we were able to just roll up the tarps with trash and everything and stuff it into a big garbage bag, so the clean up was pretty minimal.

These are shots of the room and ceiling sans popcorn:

The brown spot is where the ceiling is wet with water. I went over this portion of the ceiling again to get all of the popcorn.

A shot of me cleaning.

On Sunday, I started framing the wall between the living room and the new room. I had to do a small bit of demo (between the top of the opening and the ceiling).

Well that's all for this weekend.
